What are the recommended Colour Management Settings for Adobe Photoshop

EXPLANATION:

When printing from Adobe Photoshop, you can manage colour in the application or through the printer driver. Follow the instructions below to produce the best colour output.

  1. Using Photoshop and ICC profiles:

    1. Select File then Print with Preview for Photoshop up to and including version CS2. For versions CS3 and above select File then Print.
    2. Set the Color Handling in Photoshop to Let Photoshop Determine Colors or Photoshop Manages Colors.
    3. Set the printer profile to a choice that matches your printer and paper (e.g. Pro 7880 PLPP250).
    4. Set the Rendering Intent to Perceptual or Relative Colormetric.

    5. Set the printer's Color Management driver setting to No Color Adjustment. Depending on the driver version the option may be located in the Advanced section of the driver.

        To access the driver:

      • For Photoshop up to and including version CS4 click Print then Properties or Preferences.
      • For version CS5 select Print Settings.
      • For Mac click Print then Print Settings.

      Note:

      For version CS5 the workflow is slightly different. Page Setup has changed to Print Settings. You must access Print Settings before you click the Print button or Print Once; otherwise, the print proceeds without you having the option to make your changes to the driver settings.

  2. Using the printer driver to manage colours and no ICC profiles:

    Note:

    Adobe Photoshop CS5 does not have the option for "No Colour Management".

    1. Select File then Print with Preview for Photoshop up to and including version CS2. For versions CS3 and above select File then Print.

    2. Set Photoshop to No Color Management.

      Set the rendering intent
    3. Set Printer Color Management to any of the Epson colour settings except No Color Adjustment. Depending on the driver version the option may be located in the Advanced section of the driver. 

        To access the driver:

      • For Photoshop up to and including version CS4 click Print then Properties or Preferences.
      • For Mac click Print then Print Settings.

  3. Combinations to avoid

    Avoid the following setting combinations which produce poor results:
