1. The same User Guide is used by the Stylus DX4450, as the DX4450 belongs to the DX4400 "Series". The section entitled "Converting documents into editable text" applies to the DX4450 only.
   
   
   1. The DX4450 is almost identical in specification to the DX4400, the differences being the colour of the lid and the addition of the Abbyy FineReader OCR software to the software bundle.
      
      
   2. Abbyy FineReader is not stated as being bundled with the DX4400 in the product brochure or in the product information on the Epson website.

You can edit scanned documents using third party OCR software, available separately.

Epson recommend using the included Epson Scan software to scan documents and save them in a TIFF format for editing when you have installed an OCR software package.

Epson do not manufacture OCR software but packages can be purchased from many software retailers or manufacturer websites. Epson suggest looking at alternative OCR packages such as:




Abbyy FineReader,
Nuance's TextBridge,
Nuance's OmniPage,
Simple OCR (also offering an entry-level, free-to-download package)

Some editions of Microsoft Works and Microsoft Word have an Insert > From Scanner or Camera option. This allows you to scan and insert an image directly into Word, but this does not allow you to edit the image, even if it contains text.

Note:
Some editions of Microsoft Office in Windows have an OCR facility included, such as Office XP, 2003, and 2007. This is accessible through Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Imaging. Refer to your Word or Office documentation for information.
